Maruti Book Centre Hebbal, Bangalore

Maruti Book Store in Hebbal is a one-stop shop for all your stationery needs. From papers and pens to textbooks and novels, you’re bound to become a regular here.

Forget Sapna Book House and Landmark and head to Maruti Book Store if you live in Hebbal for all stationery needs. Located in the basement of a complex, this store might look like a regular stationery shop but don’t be fooled. They have school and office supplies like printer ink, colour pencils, paints and other provisions like chart paper and glitter (in case your little one tells you about his school project for the next day at dinner).

The folks here also sell textbooks and novels. We saw ICSE and CBSE textbooks from grades five to ten. Upon looking closely, we noticed Chetan Bhagat, Amish Tripathi and had a throwback when we saw Roald Dahl! Preparing for entrance exams like GMAT and TOEFL? They’ve got you covered in this section as well. First-hand, second-hand, they have it all and at budget-friendly prices.

Akkad Bakkad, HSR, Bangalore

Akkad Bakkad's newest flagship store (and second in the city) in HSR Layout is one of those stores that will make you want to buy everything. No really, we wanted one of everything from the store. The lifestyle store has a boho-meets-chic home decor collection, furniture, lifestyle accessories, and kid's decor and furnishings. We would be lying if we said that the first thing that caught our eye wasn't the kid's decor section. It consists of some of the cutest bedspreads, teepees, furnishings, and furniture that we've come across. So cute that we want the bunk bed with the slide in our home. A bunk bed with a slide, guys. Like how can you say no to that? Or the furnishings that feature animal and floral motifs.

Dandiganahalli Dam

For those of you have already checked off all the popular road trip destinations around Bangalore and are in search for a new, undiscovered location — Dandiganahalli Dam is waiting! Unknown to most, this pretty spot sits just around 90 minutes away from the city and is a must visit. You’ll have to make your way across the highway (easy peasy) and then navigate a few villages and muddy roads (not-so easy peasy) to get to this small reservoir that’s surrounded by rocky, green hills.
Follow Google Maps and it will bring you right to the banks of the serene waters. There’s a long bridge that runs right into the waters and you can reach its edge to take some spectacular pictures. Wading the waters though is highly dangerous and not recommended at all.

Dandiganahalli Dam is perfect for a short outing. You can swing by and hone your photography/selfie skills (whichever you prefer). The place is also great for spotting colourful birds and you can also trek around the nearby hills. However, you’ll have to carry your own food and water since there’s not much around here. If you are bringing a picnic basket make sure you don’t litter since there’s no one to clean up after you.

Bananthimari

Bananthimari is an offbeat trekking place located at a distance of 60 Km from Bangalore city. It is named after a temple located at the base of the hill. It is an easy trail filled with green bushes & shrubs during the first half of trek and, barren rocks & boulders towards the top.

The trek trail is a bit deceitful and often people loose their way during the trek. But with Trek Leader from Muddie Trails you can enjoy Bananthimari trek on a seamless path to the peak. The peak is barren mountain and some part of the trail will remind us of treks in western ghats.

This is the time when the officials release the water from the Dam; it's a sight beyond words. The gusto with which the water flows from the Dam leaves anyone watching nearby drenched in cool sprinkles.

The other is further in the cafe and ideal for quiet time with yourself or for an intimate conversation. The ambience is courtesy Happy Belly Bakes but the coffee is by Coffee First. I'm a fan of their Orange Cold Brew. It's strong, has a tangy flavour that isn't overwhelming and is refreshingly not sweet. I also recommend the cinnamon cappuccino for something warm and comforting.
